Fortville was officially incorporated in 1865 with a population of 240 inhabitants. Fortville has been consistently named a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Per the 2020 US Census, Fortville had 4,784 residents, a 21.8% increase, and a 12 point diversity index increase.
