Hancock County Clerk

Job Overview

  • The County Clerk is an elected full-time position

  • Offices are located in the Hancock County Annex and regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8am until 4pm

  • Fixed term of four (4) years, for eight (8) out of twelve (12) years

Job Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen 18 years of age or older at the time of assuming office

  • Must be and remain a current resident of Hancock County

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for many of the administrative functions of the county

  • Performs dual roles as state election law administrators and administrators to the judiciary

  • Official accountable to oversee and conduct all elections in a non-partisan manner

  • Serves as secretary on the Public Records Commission

  • Serves as a member of the Election Board and clerk of the Board of Canvassers

  • Administers and certifies results for all federal, state, county, township, municipal, special, and school board elections

  • Oversees and ensures all election polling sites meet state and federal requirements

  • Educates the public about elections and provides training to election poll workers

  • Receives and files candidacy paperwork for those seeking public office

  • Issues voter registration acknowledgment and maintains voter registration records

  • Performs as an officer of the court, the manager of court information, and the chief financial officer for all revenues collected on behalf of the court

  • issues marriage licenses

  • Ensures privacy, confidentiality, and security of court information

  • Draws names of prospective jurors and issues sommonses

  • Supervises about 11 full-time and part-time staff

Desired Qualifications (not required)

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration preferred

  • Proficiency with accounting, book-keeping, and data-entry

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • 5+ years administration experience

  • 5+ years hiring, managing, supervising, and leading staff and other managers
